What this site is

Nerd Shizz is a hobby project that hosts free web games and (eventually) sells related merch. It is run by one person on nights and weekends. There is no SLA. There is no paid support. The site is provided as-is.

Accepting these terms

You accept these terms by using the site. That includes:

• Loading any page on nerdshizz.com.
• Playing any game.
• Submitting a score.
• Signing in.
• Buying merch (when that exists).

If you do not agree, please do not use the site. Each game page also surfaces this acceptance in its footer for the same reason.

Your account

You may use Nerd Shizz signed-out. If you choose to sign in, you must use a Google or GitHub identity that is yours. You are responsible for your account. Do not share it. Do not pretend to be someone else.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Cheat. Submitting fabricated scores, automating play, or exploiting bugs to inflate leaderboards is not OK. Cheated scores get flagged and excluded from leaderboards. We may revoke accounts for repeated abuse.
• Abuse the site. No DDoS, no scraping at unreasonable rates, no probing for vulnerabilities outside the safe-harbor terms in SECURITY.md.
• Use display names that are slurs, harassment, impersonation, or otherwise harmful. We reserve the right to anonymize abusive display names.
• Reverse-engineer the site for the purpose of breaking it. Reading the source is fine; the source is on GitHub. Breaking it on purpose is not.

Game data we collect

Playing the games means we record your scores, the duration of each play, and game-specific metadata. This is necessary to power leaderboards and to detect cheating. The full list lives in our privacy policy. By playing, you accept that this data is collected and processed as described there.

Analytics

We additionally run our own first-party analytics to understand how the site is used. We do not use any third-party analytics vendor. The full breakdown of what's collected and how to turn it off is in our privacy policy. You can manage your analytics consent any time via the "manage privacy" link in the footer.

If you visit from the EU, EEA, or UK, no analytics events are recorded until you affirmatively consent. If you visit from elsewhere, analytics defaults on and the same footer link turns it off in one click.

Content we own

The brand name "Nerd Shizz", logos, product designs, puzzle text, and game-specific copy are ours. The source code of the platform is open under MIT. See LICENSE.

Payments

Where applicable, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see your card data. Stripe's terms apply to the payment portion of any transaction.

No warranty

The site and its games are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Nerd Shizz and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the site is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior, which is currently zero for everyone.

Changes

If we change anything material here, the change is in git history at apps/storefront/public/terms.html. We surface a banner on the site for 30 days when material changes happen.

Termination

You may stop using the site any time. We may terminate or suspend your access for violations of these terms. Soft-deletion of your account follows the schedule in our privacy policy.
