Dear Daemon,
A senior engineer on my team codes in light mode. In the open office. The glare is visible from space. I have lost respect for him and I don't know how to get it back. Help.

You don't get the respect back. That's gone. What you witnessed was not a preference, it was a confession. A grown adult, voluntarily, staring into a white rectangle like he's trying to summon a god who left no forwarding address.
That said: it's a monitor, not a moral failing, and you have made it your entire personality this week, which is its own diagnosis. Sit somewhere else. Buy a hood for your hatred. And remember that the man can probably out-ship you in 6500 kelvin of pure pain, which is honestly more terrifying than anything you bring to the table.
